26 Aug 2022 : Charity begins near home as Linnets support Halton Haven
Runcorn Linnets came to the aid of neighbouring Halton Haven - the club's principal charity for the season - when the hospice issued an appeal for extra items for its bottle tombola.
A collection at Tuesday's home game against Hanley Town bolstered prizes for the Haven's latest fundraiser.
Club officials, management, players and supporters chipped in with items, the brief being to donate any (unopened) bottles for the draw.
The tombola is part of The Tea at Three event at Halton Haven this Sunday (August 28th).
Linnets mascot Ron Corn will be putting in an appearance, handing out sweets and treats.
Despite the request for bottles being answered at short notice, a good variety of prizes was forthcoming.
Hanley Town donated £100 to the cause - a tremendous and most welcome gesture from the midweek visitors from Stoke-on-Trent.
Linnets have supported Halton Haven in the past but this was the first link-up since the hospice in Barnfield Avenue, Murdishaw - almost on the doorstep of APEC Taxis Stadium - became the club's main charity for 2022-23, after a twitter poll.
Josh Christian, Linnets in the Community manager and Trust Board Member at the club, said: "It is great to be able to support such an excellent cause, which is not only very local to the club but also delivers such essential care and support throughout the Halton community.
"We will be raising awareness of, and supporting, the hospice throughout the season.
"As part of this, Halton Haven have also become our pre match warm-up top partner for the campaign.
"I thank on behalf of the club all those who kindly donated and particularly our friends from Hanley for their generosity.
"While supporting the Haven, we will also as a community club continue to work hard to help other groups and charities.
"Plans are already under way to support the Royal British Legion with their Annual Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Sunday festivities.
"Community-focused events are meanwhile being planed to celebrate Hallowe'en and Christmas."
